AND ANGELS WATCH OVER YOU

Walking The Bricks

It was a wonderful early spring Thursday afternoon in March and my grandson and I had just gotten home from a day of housecleaning someone else's home. I ran up the steps of the front porch and into the house in the hopes of getting to the bathroom before it was too late. (Too much information?) And grandson headed off to the sandbox via 'walking the bricks', a 2 brick high border around a small garden area by the front porch.

I had just sat down and was so relieved that I had made it in time, when I heard my grandson pitch a scream and cry in a manner that turned my personal relief to panic. In reflection, I really was torn between rushing to his aide, (no matter the risk of my mess, fearing for a brief moment, the overwhelming guilt I would have to deal with if those moments held to the commode were his final ones) ... and the judgement that by his cries, he liveth! I chose to sit and holler at my little guy to come to Nana and when he rounded the corner by the bathroom door where I could finally see him ... a face full of blood!!!

Let's just say the next few minutes were difficult for both of us. I got his face washed enough to see a gash near his eyebrow and knew we had to get to the doctor. By that time, Grandsons cries were but whimpers and the gash did not appear life threatening.

We weren't home even 20 minutes before back to the car with quick calls to Grandson's parents, a short drive to the hospital, all the while, me, talking soothing words to the rear view mirror temporarily trained on our whimpering little guy. The visit to ER took a couple of hours and what a charmer Grandson turned out to be for the ER nurses and doctor and anyone, thereafter, that took note of his injury.

Grandson has 'walked the bricks' too many times to count. And, yes, there were times he'd lost his balance and fallen off the bricks and skinned a knee or just needed the dirt brushed off. In this tumble, he fell on one of my solar ornaments. It was a sun globe with 3 inch long metal 'rays'. His injury could have been far worse. He could have lost an eye.

I do believe in angels.

P.S. I have since pulled most of the solar lawn spikes for further thot on safe placement.
