On July 20, 2012, a gunman opened fire on innocents that had come to Century Theater in Aurora, CO for the opening of the new Batman film. I'm not blogging the gunman's name, nor the name of the new Batman movie that drew everyone to its midnite premire. The shooter must not be immortalized for his perversion and the movie or the guns did not do the killing. They are but a blip in this senseless tragedy!
I can't imagine what it must have been like for the folks that converged on this theater expecting to enjoy a much anticipated film, only to flee for thier lives in sheer terror! I can't imagine what it would be like to witness such carnage, or to know that your boyfriend just died saving your life. I can't imagine the confusion and chaos as they began to realize the movie stunt was not a stunt at all but death at thier doorstep. I just can't imagine this at all!!!
Now, a day after, the police are trying to defuse what looks like a sabatoged apartment that belongs to the shooter. It sounds like it could have been even a larger tragedy if the apartment had blown up on cue. What makes someone plan out the destruction of innocents? If someone had gone up to his apartment and opened his door to complain about the loud music he had set to blare at midnight, they may have lost thier life and set off a series of explosions that could have devastated and killed others.
The shooter was apprehended, meekly, in the Century Theater parking lot dressed for battle ... but he didn't battle, just surrendered AND told the police where he lived and that there were more explosives in his apartment. Why the change? Kill and then roll over and tell em to scratch your belly?! Or did he think that someone had fallen into his trap and by revealing his address, the percieved carnage could be added to his tab? Why? Why? Why?
As this story unfolds, I pray for the victums, first reponders and for family, friends and anyone affected by this tragedy. I pray that the Lord can help us to understand ... or at the very least, help us to overcome the trauma and fear that this tragedy has wrought. As a survivor of violence myself, I won't let this horrible act by evil incarnate keep me from living life to it's fullest. I pray that the Lord will shut down all the triggers that such a tragedy ignites in my soul and give me a heart to reach out in love and healing prayer to those with raw wounds opened by this horrible, senseless tragedy.

Sometimes, I fear, prayer is not enough. Meaningful prayers? Gee thanks, Camille. Wonder if we'll ever know why? Stay safe, my friend!
